Typps Version 2.7 released

We have a new release that fixes an important bug in when running the editor in a website that targets .NET 4.0 and Ajax control Toolkit. This release does not break any features so it should be a fairly easy upgrade.

Currently we are restructuring code in preparation for new features. So unless there is a major bug to fix, we will be skipping a few iterations.

One of the things we don't currently do is check in our code on codeplex. Instead we make releases and put out packages in the download section. Hopefully from the next release onwards we will start doing that too.

Silverlight is all that and a bag of chips

Recently there's been a lot of FUD around silverlight and how microsoft is making a shift in strategy, which by the way is a good thing. Silverlight questions for more.

While I like standards and HTML5, I want it all today. I'm currently invested in silverlight, I love the DEV tools, great community that Microsoft managed to build around it during the past 3 years and currently it enjoys a good 60% penetration rate.

60% is kind of OK for me, afterall, it's a free plugin with a small footprint. It costs nothing to the end user to install. If they want to use my application, they will eventually get it. Best yet, I don't have to worry about ie6,ie7 and ie8 not supporting it.

People right now are still confused on which way to swing. Silverlight vs Html5 because IE9 is releasing soon with support for HTML5.

My reasons to continue to stick to silverlight is simple.

1. I am porting existing c# code I used to run serverside, to now run on the client.
2. IE6,IE7,IE8 support. Even with IE9 out there, we still have to worry about these currently dominating browsers. I simply refuse to use yet another plugin ( google frame ) to provide HTML5 support.
3. Silverlight has proper development tools, enviornment and a thriving community. I cannot say the same about HTML5 and SVG.

What are others worried about ?

whoops, I might be in a little trouble <:o) Just kidding. I understand the fear. But nothing is going to change, reality is what it is. Silverlight is all that and a bag of chips. I shall continue developing my application in silverlight. I will update this post when the release is up.
